Forbes has recently named seven countries–called “Rising Stars in Travel”–that could potentially be major travel destinations in a post-COVID world. The Philippines, being one of them, welcomed the recognition with pride.
The Department of Tourism Secretary, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, received the distinction and expressed how this could help get tourism in the country going again.
“We are pleased to have received this bit of good news, especially after our industry had been hit hard by the global health pandemic,” she said. “International recognition, especially by a well-respected publication like Forbes, in this post-COVID-19 world, will go a long way in helping the Philippine tourism industry get back on its feet.”
With this, Puyat also assured that the reopening of tourism sites would proceed with caution. “With the public’s health and safety in mind, we are preparing our tourism sites in areas now under the modified general community quarantine for their gradual reopening for domestic tourism,” she said.
In Forbes’ list, two of the three main islands of the Philippines were featured with Luzon being home to urbanized communities and Visayas for its beaches and conservation of wildlife and fauna.

Rising Stars in Travel
Forbes recognized the struggles of the tourism industry amid the global pandemic. As the whole world went into lockdown over the past few months, travel and tourism suffered a great deal.
However, nations around the world have predicted that there will be a boom in the industry once we could travel again. Forbes said that this could be the chance for some countries to establish a face in travel and tourism.
The business and financial publication has recognized the countries that have yet to become world-class destinations, but have all the things we want to see when we travel: “pristine natural beauty, historic ruins, and fascinating cultural experiences”.
Here’s the list of countries it named as the Rising Stars in Travel:
